For most Markham homes, a seasonal contract is the simplest way to keep the driveway clear all winter. It usually covers the driveway and can include the walkway, steps and salting. Companies often fill their routes in the fall, so compare who covers your neighbourhood, what's included, and how much snow it takes before they come out. Then pick the ones you'd like us to contact.
Not every household wants a full-season contract. Some companies will clear a driveway for one storm, which can work for a mild winter, one big dump of snow, or a rental or family property you look after. Capacity gets tight in a major storm, so it helps to choose a few options early. Tell us what needs clearing and we'll reach out to the companies you choose.
Plazas, offices, places of worship and multi-unit buildings usually need plowing and salting, often finished before people arrive. Look for companies that list commercial work and ask what equipment they'd use for your lot. Pick the ones that fit and we'll contact them for you.
The City of Markham doesn't clear the windrow (the snowbank the plow leaves across your driveway) for every home. Its Snow Windrow Removal Assistance Program serves registered residents who are 60 or older, or who have a doctor's note saying they can't shovel. After a 7.5 cm snowfall, City crews clear one car width at the end of their driveway once the street is plowed. Homes on rear lanes and private roads or condos don't qualify, and the rest of the driveway and walkway is still the owner's job. City crews plow public sidewalks once 5 cm or more has fallen.
